This staple of Hong Kong Cinema is a definite masterpiece that more than lives up to its reputation. The breathtaking imagery and cinematography make for a worthy standout in the Swordplay/Fantasy genre. It is the story of star-crossed lovers somewhat along the lines of Butterfly and Sword. Brigitte Lin Ching-Hsia is at her best and has never looked more convincing. She plays a witch who falls in love with a swordsman (Leslie Cheung Kwok-Wing), for whom she eventually relinquishes her powers.
